School Bus Users Continue to Increase

The Jakarta Transportation Agency's School Transport Management Unit (UPAS) Head Mohamad Insaf has noted that the interest of students using free school bus service continues to increase up to 42,000 people every day.

"Based on the data in July, the average student using a school bus is only 30,000," he expressed, Monday (10/7).

The UPAS has 176 school buses consisting of 116 units of medium-sized bus and 60 small-sized buses. The medium-sized bus serves 20 regular routes and small-sized serves 12 routes.

"Hopefully we can achieve a maximum capacity of 50,000 students from 176 bus units," he explained.

To monitor school bus operations, his side uses a special application to find out the number of school bus users reported by bus crews every day.

"It's real time, data from the bus crew using online system," he told.

He added, school buses operate in three shifts, with details 6.30 AM to 7 AM, 11 AM to 4 PM and 5 PM to 6.30 PM.

Besides regular services, school bus also serves educational visits or school tours, as well as provides pick up service for orphans of social institutions to their schools.

"We only prepare one unit for orphans, considering the amount is not much or a maximum of around 30 children," he closed.
